Lauren Doyle Strauss, DO
Dr. Strauss is a Child Neurologist in Winston Salem, NC and is affiliated with Brenner Children’s Hospital and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She received her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, trained in child neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital and headache medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Strauss’s work as a pediatric neurologist centers on improving the lives of children with headache disorders through educating patients, parents and other healthcare professionals.
Rebecca Erwin Wells, MD, MPH
Rebecca Erwin Wells, MD, MPH, is an expert in Headache Medicine and Integrative Medicine, having completed fellowships in both specialties through Harvard Medical School. She has NIH funding to research mind-body interventions for migraine relief, evaluating the efficacy and mechanisms of mindfulness for migraine. Dr. Wells is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Health in North Carolina, where she founded and directs their Comprehensive Headache Program and serves as an Associate Director of Clinical Research at their Center for Integrative Medicine. She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with highest honors, Brody School of Medicine-East Carolina University, and Harvard School of Public Health where she obtained her Master’s in Public Health. She completed Internship and Neurology residency at University of Virginia. She has been a “Best Doctor of America” since 2015, serves as Treasurer of the Southern Headache Society, and has recently been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Headache Society. Her research receives frequent media attention, including interviews with Time magazine, NPR, BBC News, Boston Globe, and Prevention magazine. She has published many articles and presented frequently to national audiences as an expert in headache, mind/body, and integrative medicine.
Sandhya Kumar, MD, FAASM
Sandhya Kumar, MD, FAASM is an expert in Headache Medicine and Sleep Medicine. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology as well as the Program Director of Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Health in NC. She received her medical degree in India , followed by internship and neurology residency at Wake Forest School Of Medicine where she also completed her Sleep Medicine Fellowship. She is board certified in Neurology, Headache Medicine as well as Sleep Medicine. She has been in the list of “Best Doctors in America” since 2015. She has published articles on both headaches and sleep , been interviewed by local TV stations , has been quoted in Time Magazine , Huffington Post and has presented to both regional and national audiences.
Erica, aka Achy Smile, is a migraine advocate from Midland, Texas, now living in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She helps her husband, Stephen, raise their two young adult children, Marissa and Noah, through a life with chronic pain and neurological symptoms.
Their daughter, who lives with chronic vestibular migraine, is a Freshman in college learning how to thrive with Erica just a phone call away. Noah, a Junior in high school, lives with episodic attacks of ocular migraine. In late January 2018, Erica shared the stage with prominent women in the health industry and talked about her life with migraine at BlogHer Health, an annual blogger conference for women. In early 2020, Erica joined over 200 advocates at Headache on the Hill, where she told her story to Members of Congress about what it's like living with hemiplegic migraine and not having access to doctors trained in headache medicine.
Achy Smile is a Partner of the American Migraine Foundation and the Association of Migraine Disorders, is the Director of Marketing for Chronic Migraine Awareness, Inc., and designs migraine awareness t-shirts and gifts for those with neurological disorders at Achy Smile Shop.
Amanda is a Chronic Migraine patient who has had continuous Migraine attacks for over 14 years. When she became disabled by the disease four years ago, she began to use her own experiences as well as skills from the workplace to advocate for Migraine patients. Amanda is best known as "BreatheMia" on Twitter, where she shares her day to day life with Chronic Migraine while encouraging other patients in their journeys. She is also the founder and Editor in Chief of My Chronic Brain, a magazine for Chronic Migraine patients and those with whom they interact. The magazine strives to equip patients with information to help them live their extraordinary lives. Amanda lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her adorable service dog Genius.
