Unwinding Anxiety for Migraine & Other Headache Disorders

We are conducting a research study using the smart phone app Unwinding Anxiety in conjunction with a weekly Zoom group for people with anxiety and migraine.

In a recent randomized controlled study of individuals with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, participants reported a 67% reduction in anxiety after 2 months of using the app.

Anxiety can be 5 times more common in people with migraine.  This study is seeking to see if the Unwinding Anxiety app combined with a weekly support group can reduce anxiety in those who suffer from migraine.

Along with using the app, we will have a 7-session support group reviewing lessons and practices from the app and exploring how we unknowingly may develop and reinforce anxiety habits. We expect to have 20-25 people participating in the group.

Once participants have been accepted into the study, participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups.  All sessions will be held on Zoom on Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Eastern Standard time.  Group start dates will be communicated shortly.

We have a limited number of spots in the research study so completing an application is not a guarantee of participation.  We apologize in advance if you are not selected to participate in the study and will provide you with a discount code should you want to try the app on your own.

If the findings of the research are encouraging, our hope is to be able to offer the app with a support group in the future.

Before applying be sure that you will be able to commit to

  • Using the app 10-20 minutes per day
  • Attending all 6 sessions of the support group
  • Completing questionnaires before session 1, immediately after session 6 and then three months after session 6

Robin Bodette

Robin Boudette, Ph.D.

Robin Boudette, Ph.D., is a psychologist and mindfulness instructor with more than 25 years of clinical experience.  She has a special interest in mind-body health and has extensive training in yoga and mindfulness meditation.  She works in private practice in Princeton, New Jersey and offers mindfulness programs and trainings in healthcare, higher education, and workplace settings.

Bonnie Butler

Bonnie Butler, RN, MA

Bonnie is a mindfulness instructor and Registered Nurse. She has extensive MBSR teacher training through the Myrna Brind Center for Mindfulness at Jefferson University Hospital. She has also received training through the Mindful Schools program geared towards teaching mindfulness to children and teens. Her career has included Nursing education, Nursing administration and Consulting, focusing on wellness and rehabilitation. She began practicing meditation over 25 years ago to help manage a chronic migraine condition that was resistant to medical management. Since that time the practice of meditation has played a central role in her life. Currently she teaches mindfulness for the Myrna Brind Center for Mindfulness at Jefferson University Hospital.
