Miles for Migraine strongly believes that self-care must be part of every treatment plan and that means including a bit of fun! Our Social Events Series is intended to do just that!
Each of us experiences migraine differently. Do you wear a “Mask” that helps you manage how you are perceived during your day? Do you wear different masks depending on which people you are around? Together, we will use art to peel back the different layers that we often hide our pain behind. Let’s come together for community, and enjoy a simple, yet fun, art project.
This project is perfect for ALL art levels! Whether you would like to do something simple or be ambitious with your design, the main objective is to come together and discuss what is truly BEHIND the mask we call Migraine.
Goal: Design your “migraine mask” however you see fit!
Supplies Needed: Download 1 PDF Mask (Several options will be available for you to select from. Emailed prior to event.
Other Helpful Supplies: crayons, markers, colorful pens, paint, scissors, stickers, magazines (for collage purposes), glue, glitter, scissors, etc.
After designing our masks, those who would like can share your creations with the group during an informal discussion.
Here are some ideas on how to design your mask:
- What the “World Sees” vs. What is Inside”
- The Stages of Migraine Mask… “before” migraine starts, “during” and “after” migraine
- Tell your personal story of migraine
- Use colors, shapes, and images to translate your feelings and experiences into imagery

Laura is a brain injury survivor who passionately advocates for those in the brain health communities. As a Colorado Native, Laura, is proud to serve on Colorado’s Brain Injury Advisory Council and she represented Colorado at 2022 and 2023’s Headache on the Hill. She works closely with the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado where she teaches Self-Advocacy and facilitates various support groups. Laura was the recipient of a Colorado Mindsource Grant in 2022.
After sustaining injuries in a car accident, which included brain injury and daily migraine, she created the website Litupmymind.com. The website was inspired by the thought that light can always be found in darkness; through all adversity – whether that adversity is from physical pain or emotional trauma, there is always light and hope. She hopes to help others, like herself, who have experienced brain injury and/or are enduring headache health issues and chronic pain.
She knows that looking for advice, educational resources, and guidance while experiencing migraine and pain can be miserable. It’s her hope that by consolidating the best resources that she’s found on such topics while on her own journey, that she may help others on theirs. She is determined to give her pain purpose by educating others about migraine disease, and brain injury. When she isn’t busy advocating, Laura enjoys drinking good coffee, cuddling with her dog, Bella, watching sports, and spending time with friends and her loving Italian family. She has overcome many learning difficulties, to become a voracious reader.
