Joyce Evans is an award-winning broadcast journalist with a storied career spanning more than four decades. Evans got her journalism start in news radio, eventually moving to Philadelphia to join NBC affiliate KYW TV, where she worked for a decade before joining the FOX29 news team in 1996. In 2020, after 24 years at FOX, Evans retired from full-time reporting, but continues to contribute special projects.
Throughout her career Evans has covered many historic events, including presidential campaigns and politics, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, natural disasters, protests and social change activism, racial disparities, and medical breakthroughs, to name a few. She has worked as an adjunct professor at Temple University.
Evans has been recognized by numerous organizations for her exceptional news reporting and personal service in the community. Her unique, in-depth style and empathetic story telling earned her five Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards as an individual reporter, and an Associated Press award for spot news. In addition, in 2008 the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists named Evans Broadcast Journalist of the Year. She’s been honored at both Howard and Florida A&M Universities as a Distinguished Alumna, and has been recognized by the Children’s Miracle Network, the Philadelphia Chapter of the NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, The Links, Inc., and many more.
Evans originally hails from Washington, D.C., where she and her seven siblings grew up in the Kenilworth Courts public housing projects. Through hard work and mentorship, Evans and her siblings each went on to achieve academic and career success.
Evans continues to prioritize mentorship, taking an active role in mentoring young people to aim high and give back.
