Speakers
Dr. Meredith Barad, MD
Dr. Meredith Barad, MDÂ grew up in Denver, CO. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin summa cum laude in 1998 and graduated from Stanford University Medical School in 2003. She completed her internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA, and then went on to a neurology residency at Stanford University. After residency, Meredith completed a pain fellowship at Stanford. She is board certified in neurology, headache, and pain. Her clinical and research focus is on facial pain and she co-directs the Facial Pain program at Stanford. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesia (Pain Management) and Neurology & Neurological Sciences as well as the Associate Division Chief of Education and Program Director for the Pain Fellowship. She is the Immediate Past President of the American Pain Program Directors.
Dr. Heather Poupore-King, PhD
Dr. Heather Poupore-King, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University, where she serves as Director of the APA-accredited Pain Psychology Fellowship. She is a pain psychologist with expertise in behavioral treatments for migraine and other chronic pain conditions, specializing in the development and implementation of innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to pain management.
Dr. Poupore-King specializes in evidence-based behavioral treatments for migraine, helping individuals reduce the impact of migraine on their daily lives through effective, non- pharmacologic pain management strategies. Her clinical expertise includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), biofeedback, and clinical hypnosis. She is passionate about empowering patients with practical, evidence-based skills that reduce pain-related disability, improve quality of life, and foster resilience. Her approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and the belief that every patient deserves to feel heard, understood, and equipped with effective tools to live a values-based life.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Poupore-King has served as a master CBT trainer on multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research grants and as Director of Behavioral Services for several Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)-funded studies at Stanford. Through her clinical care, teaching, and research, she is committed to advancing interdisciplinary pain care and expanding access to effective, evidence-based treatments for individuals living with migraine and other chronic pain conditions.
Katie MacDonald
Katie MacDonald is the Executive Director at Miles for Migraine. She is a person who has lived most of her life alongside migraine and currently lives with chronic daily migraine. Katie is passionate about advocacy and breaking down the stigma that so many of us with migraine experience.
