Miles for Migraine, in collaboration with the U.S. Pain Foundation (Pediatric Pain Warriors) and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), has developed a one-day in-person experiential and educational program. This event will provide information while easing the isolation of children with chronic migraine and pain while educating parents.
Program Elements
The program will provide an opportunity to meet other children and families who live with migraine and pain in an environment of support and understanding.
The program will address such topics as:
- Why do headaches occur
- What treatment options are available
- Non-medication treatments
- Mind-Body techniques
Suitable for ages 12+ with a parent/caretaker. Snacks and lunch will be provided. A $10 registration fee will be reimbursed at event registration.

The event will include full group introductions and education while also providing small group (child and adult) sessions to provide a hands on learning experience. This is a fun day meant to connect families in person reducing the isolation of migraine and pain.

Psychologists – Christina Murphy and Emily Mariotti – demonstrate mind-body approaches to treatment, facilitating parent or teen breakout groups
Social Workers – Danielle Ford – facilitate mind-body approaches to treatment, resources, facilitating parent or teen breakout groups
Physical Therapists – Ali Ladak – breakout group for demonstrations
Art Therapists – Colleen Szkudlapski – breakout group for demonstrations

Christina Szperka, MD, MSCE, is Director of the Pediatric Headache Program and a pediatric neurologist at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is dedicated to improving treatment for children with headaches.

Miles for Migraine Volunteer Director and Support Group Director
Katie joined the Miles for Migraine team in January of 2019, assisting with many aspects of their events. In addition, Katie works with the bringing volunteers on board to raise awareness for Migraine and Headache Disease. She also manages the Miles for Migraine Community Support Groups in efforts to engage and offer support to those with Migraine and their caregivers across the country.Â
Casey Cashman-U.S. Pain Foundation

Director of Fundraising and the Pediatric Pain Warrior Program
Casey Cashman uses her voice to fight passionately for the rights of people with pain, especially children. She has lived most of her life with multiple, serious health conditions, including reflex sympathetic dystrophy and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, among others. Her knowledge and experience in her role as director of the Pediatric Pain Warriors Program is that she provides compassionate support to kids with pain and their families as they travel along their pain journeys.Casey collaborates with Miles for Migraine to bring children's programs focusing on pain across the country.
