Miles for Migraine, U.S. Pain Foundation, and Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's have developed a one-day in-person experiential and educational program for children with migraine, headache disorder, and chronic pain.
This event will provide information while easing the isolation of children with headache and pain while educating families.
Program Elements
The program will provide an opportunity to meet other children and families who live with migraine and pain in an environment of support and understanding.
Introduction to skills, education, and open discussion will be facilitated. The discussion will revolve around the challenges facing the entire family while developing community, coping skills, and understanding.
Topics include:
Understanding Pediatric Migraine: Symptoms, triggers & treatment options
- The Science Behind Migraine: How it affects the brain & body
- Â Mental Health & Migraine: Coping strategies for migraine, headache disorders and pain
- Family & School Advocacy: How to support kids in school & daily life
- Treatment Approaches: Medications, lifestyle changes & alternative therapies
Children will enjoy:
- Healing art
- Yoga
- Connections with others who "get it"
Groups will be split among youth and caretakers to provide connection and Q&A
Suitable for ages 11+ with a caretaker. No respite provided.
Free with registration. Guardians will be asked to pay $5 per family and will be reimbursed at the event.

Meet the Speakers
Casey Cashman
Casey Cashman uses her voice to fight passionately for the rights of people with pain, especially children. She has lived most of her life with multiple, serious health conditions, including reflex sympathetic dystrophy and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, among others.
Her knowledge and experience in her role as director of the Pediatric Pain Warriors Program, is where she provides compassionate support to kids with pain and their families as they travel along their pain journeys.
Casey collaborates with Miles for Migraine to bring children's programs focusing on pain across the country.
Elizabeth Cipparrone, DO
Elizabeth Cipparrone is a physiatrist who discovered a passion for headache medicine through her elective rotations in neurology, which ultimately led her to a fellowship in this field. So far, the experience has far exceeded my expectations. She looks forward to the year ahead and a career dedicated to helping those with headache disorders.
Kara S. Lewis, MD
Kara Stuart Lewis, MD, FAAN, FAHS, is a child neurologist at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's. She is the Medical Director of Fetal Neurology and the Director of Education for Barrow Neurosciences at Phoenix Children’s. She serves on the National Medical Advisory Committee (nMAC) for Make-A-Wish America. Dr. Lewis has a BA in anthropology from Pomona College and received her MD from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. She did her pediatrics training at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and completed her Child Neurology residency at Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Lewis’s clinical specialty interests include headaches and migraines in young children and adolescents, fetal neurology, and the long-term care of children across their lives with cerebral palsy and other
Rob Little, MD
Robert Little, MD, earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He went on to a residency in pediatrics at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, AZ. Dr. Little rounded out his training with a child neurology fellowship at Northwestern University Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and certified in Headache Medicine by the United Council for Neurologic SubspecialtiesÂ
Reena Rastogi, MD, FAHSÂ
Reena Gogia Rastogi, MD, FAHS, is the director of the Concussion Program and clinical director of the Pediatric Headache Program at the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's. She is board-certified in child neurology and headache medicine. As a child neurologist, Dr. Rastogi treats children and teens with conditions involving the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. She has a special interest in treating migraines, concussions, and post-traumatic headaches. Dr. Rastogi believes collaboration is important in patient care. "It's important that he physician, patient, and family members work together to choose the best treatment option," she says. Her passion for her work comes from "helping patients and improving their quality of life." Outside the hospital, Dr. Rastogi values spending time with her husband and two children. She also enjoys traveling and photography.
Sarah Rathsack
Sarah aworks for Miles for Migraine as the Director of the ACT Now: Advocacy Training Program, Director of Family Programs, and Blog Manager.
She enjoys educating people about migraine, bringing community together and making it a better world for migraine.
Sarah has received awards as the top fundraiser (in Cleveland and nationally), been the team captain for the largest team, and was awarded the Warrior Advocate trophy.
