A note from Dr. Brchan: The last thing a patient wants to hear from their headache provider is a list of things THEY need to do to treat their pain. Patients and families may feel they are being blamed for their condition and misunderstood by their provider. At times, patients may get frustrated with their provider’s approach to their care and might feel that the recommendations made are not realistic or they simply don't work. My goal is to dismantle the myth that migraine disease is the patient’s fault. I know the pain is real and should not be minimized. I want to encourage and empower patients to take advantage of both medications and lifestyle modifications to improve their wellbeing. So come join me for an honest discussion about how to best utilize your headache team and make the most of their recommendations. I look forward to partnering with you on your healing journey.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Brchan graduated from the Xavier University of Louisiana and obtained her medical degree at the University of Iowa Roy J and Lucille A Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, IA. After her residency and fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at the University of Colorado/Children’s Hospital Colorado, she is now completing a Headache Fellowship at Children’s Mercy Kansas City.
Dr. Brchan is a board-certified pediatric neurologist and a member of the Child Neurology Society and the American Headache Society. The profound need for pediatric headache management was highlighted as Dr. Brchan was one of only two child neurologists in Alaska for about two years.
